Wait, they're trying to study neuroscience with an online survey? How does that work?
And how could anyone NOT know about novel-length works? It's mentioned in the Wikipedia page (...unless someone just edited that in). I mean, Cassie Claire! If you look on ff.net you'll find that it has a length option in the search function! Any lj fanfic community will have some story that's at least ten chapters long! What is wrong with these people?!
And the slash stuff... Especially when you get into anime, where romance or sexual preference often aren't mentioned... orz.
I do find the subject of sexuality in fandom interesting, since it seems different from say, romance novels. (ie. we're taking characters we're already familiar with, it's free, etc.) But they seem to have no knowledge of fandom whatsoever.
The problem with these people is that they are trying to write neuroscience based around Rule 34.
I know at least one author who had written three fairly lengthy 100 chaptered fics on FF.net, and was working on the fourth before I stopped frequenting that site. If they really wanted to find it, the info was right out there. And yeah, Cassie Claire.
Assuming these people are who they say they are, the only idea that makes sense to me is that this is some sort of preliminary research before they start the real research. So they can refine the survey. But research should be more than getting people to come yell at you.
Please tell me you saw this thread. Women liking slash is like men liking... transexuals? For some crazy reason patriarchy what patriarchy society at large reacts differently to women liking porn than men liking porn! I don't know if I have ever been so happy with a dogpiling. Way to go, fandom, and for once I don't mean that sarcastically.
Also I lost the link, but in case you didn't see (which you probably have by now, since it is two days later), the internal review board at BU denied any connection with him since he graduated. So it was all completely unregulated!
I saw that thread, and the many beautiful smackdowns that will never penetrate those thick, thick skulls. He's used the term 'tranny', and when he was called out on that, he changed it to 'shemale'. What the fuck.
Here's the link disclaiming relation to BU, though.
