Fanfic: Second Glance (Toshiko & Owen)

200th journal entry! I was convinced I would never write Torchwood fanfiction, ever. And then fallsparrow gave me a prompt and a pairing (Glance, Tosh/Owen) when I did a drabble request meme ... so here I am. Yeah, somehow this evolved into a one-shot. I've never been all that good at keeping my stories short anyway lol

You know, there aren't many Tosh-Owen stories I like, because to get anywhere, it seems like they go very OOC. Not this one - it stays beautifully in character, with maybe an extra push from their Adam persona's. So you have Owen being a bit unsure, and Tosh being a bit more assertive (which actually, we HAVE seen in canon, just not in regards to Owen), and it works. Makes what's coming next doubly tragic.

Wow thank you so much, I find that to be a really huge compliment, because if there's anything I'm super-anal about, it's characterization. And I definitely agree with you - it's often tempting for writers to just let characterization slide to push a pairing together, and that's most certainly the easier way out, but I really can't; it drives me completely insane.

Indeed! :) I believe that they both might've had bits of their Adam personas in the past (as I wrote in my author's notes), especially since their life was different pre-Torchwood. We've seen Owen sobbing in Jack's arms as well as Tosh's stronger and in-control moments, so they're certainly not a black-and-white arsehole and mousy submissive girl. XD I'm very happy you think it works!! And yes, it definitely makes the upcoming events all the more heartbreaking.
