1. I made this Obama icon after the 2004 convention. I made it a point to watch his speech (having heard about him but not knowing much about him), and I couldn't turn away. It was the most amazing political speech I had ever heard ( Read more... )

I agree that Gov. Palin is a smart choice - but I disagree on the reason (feminist factor). IMHO she is an astute politican from a state that is in the middle of an environmental / energy power play. She has experience on the Oil & Gas commission and with (more than one) ethics inquiries. She has a stable family and belief in God - which they'll play up. She also opposes abortion rights. All of these make her extremely dangerous. But, IMHO, they are not her biggest plus for the GOP ( ... )

Yeah, I was just watching Lehrer and they were all talking about how H.W. Bush talking down to Ferraro in the VP debate in '84 just made him look awful... Hopefully Biden takes the warning to heart.

Governor Palin certainly can't hurt McCain's chances for drawing in Hillarepublicans, however.

You make a great point about Palin versus Biden (sadly); this was the guy who had to work really hard to qualify his words after calling Obama "clean" and "articulate," after all.

if they would have gone for a Stevie song.. why not "You are the Sunshine of my life?" much, much more fitting.

Or Journy. You can't go wrong with Journey & politics.

I gotta disagree about the music, actually. I thought they made very smart choices, throughout. I don't remember all the choices that you're talking about -- orchestral music is popcorn to me, 95% of the time, it just goes away -- but "Isn't She Lovely" -- they're trying to soften Michelle's image, because she's coming across (to stupid people, I won't argue) as too politically aware, too sharp, too smart. People barely tolerated Hillary as First Lady during Clinton's first term, and they're really not prepared for Black Hillary. And I'd argue that Michelle quicker off the block, but with less experience in the public arena -- Senator's wife is different than Governor's wife -- so they are doing all they can to make her the Woman Who Supports Her Man. Hell, I'm just glad they didn't play "Stand By Her Man" or something ( ... )
