Darkness? Heartless? What are those? This entire dimension shifting sounds to be more in Chao-san's area of expertise but she isn't anywhere in sight.

I can do a longer explanation if you want me to, but at the base of things, Darkness is all the negativity found within a person. Some say it's evil, but I don't see it as that. It's just a balancing force that's necessary. Anyway, Heartless are formed out of the Darkness, usually when someone loses their heart to the Darkness.

It does not like either eastern or western magic; this is definitely something new to me so I'm sorry I'm not understanding this right away. The world I am from, magic is the major influence as well as chi. Darkness is something that I know Evangeline-san would know more than I.

Magic? I was never too good at that. Sora picked it up pretty quickly.

But it's all right. It's just all the sorrow, saddness, anger, jealousy, anything that's considered negative, all those feelings that exist inside a person's heart. That's the darkness. It's opposite is light. Happiness, joy, love, you know, all that.

Both things exist inside a person's heart, but to varying amounts. In a sense, some hearts are purer; filled with more light.

But despite everything associated with darkness, it's not purely evil or even bad. It's just something that needs to be controlled and understood.

Once, Darkness almost took over the world. It's the usual "good versus evil" story, so I'm not going to go into. Anyway, it was stopped. Guess I'm just glad I haven't seen any signs of Darkness lurking around.
