Oh, Movies! How I Love A Good Movie!

And the Hobbit movies... well, they were interesting fanfiction with good singing, at the very least. Any kid who tries to substitute them for the book is going to miss an excellent story, though. In the book, Thorin was a Very Important Dwarf that was prone to fancy speech, there was no overt hostility between the elves and dwarves, Thranduil was ( Read more... )

I feel so bad with watching movies lately. I saw the first Hobbit movie and really liked it. I still have to watch the other two.

I kind of agree about the overuse of computer graphics in movies. Sometimes it's just too much, and I think there can be some moderation depending on the story. The Mad Max movie had some great computer graphics in the action scenes. I felt with the tone of the movie it was appropriate.

On the flip side, I love the old Star Wars movies -- before they started "cleaning" them up. Maybe it has something to do with the time it came out. Same for the silent movie Metropolis. For that time period, they had some really creative ways to make that movie.

Um... the next two Hobbit movies are very entertaining, but completely outrageously funny/weird if you know the book. Athelas makes a comeback, though this time there's no King to make it work - so magically one elf woman can use it to heal the wound of a 'Mordor shaft'. *snickers* Yeah... I think it's a lesser cousin of the Morgul blade, since one non-royal elf can heal the darkness. There's a dwarf/elf love story (I can't keep a straight face saying that!). There's no talking thrush, and Smaug doesn't have his gold and jewel waistcoat, both of which made me sad. Dain probably gets the best line, as he rides in on his war pig (!) and asks if the elves and humans can do him a favor and just sod off. Thranduil is so jewel-mad he gets a bunch of elves killed, which was sooo far off the mark ( ... )
