Not everyone has a facebook. I post things on LJ that I wouldn't post on Facebook. Facebook is too public for certain things that I would post. If the post is locked on Lj it is much harder for it to be found on the interwebs. Keep it you don't necessarily have to check it all the time but if folk need to contact you they can still send you a msg through LJ.
