Name: Gintoki Sakata
Age: Though no specific age is given, perhaps hovering around 25.
Gender: Male
Fandom: Gintama (anime-verse)
Timeline: End of episode 199.
History: Entire first paragraph was copypasta'd from:
http://gintama.wikia.com/wiki/Anime_Synopsis Near the end of the Edo period in the Gintama world, a extra-terrestrial foreign species collectively termed Amanto forcefully descended upon Earth, and not long thereafter, Earth inhabitants waged what was to become an approximately 20-year war with the Amantos, broadly called the Joui War. Many samurais and Joui patriots joined in this fight to expel the foreigners. However, the Amantos' overwhelming military might, coupled with the weak Bakufu government, led to the meek submission of the ruling Shogunate, thereby allowing the Amantos to overrun the Earth with ease. The Bakufu government in effect became the Amantos' puppet government, and from then on, the Amantos were able to swagger down the streets of Edo with total disregard for anyone. On the other hand, the Joui rebels who fought against the Amantos became the target of the Bakufu government's crack-down operations. As part of the suppression campaign, a ban on carrying swords in public was effected, and the heretofore valiant samurais lost their fighting spirit.
Though Gin was only a small child when the Amanto first descended, it has been implied by canon that Gin's teacher, Yoshida Shouyou, was killed during the war. Whether directly or indirectly is unknown, but this was likely the reason why Gin, along with former classmates Kotarou Katsura and Shinsuke Takasugi joined the war in its last few years. After having gained an incredible reputation in the war as "Shiroyasha", the white demon, Gin began to tire of the pointless blood spill and disappeared from the war.
Once the Amanto had settled in, Gin opened up a freelancing business called "Yorozuya Gin-chan", taking on any odd-job for a fee. It is because of his business' freelancing nature that he is often broke, and thus constantly several months behind on his rent, much to the chagrin of his landlady. Though perhaps not everything is bad; the Amanto brought with them technology far beyond that particular time frame's years. Many gadgets present in this Edo is on par with what we have IRL, with several even surpassing ours.
Gin operates his business with humanoid Amanto Kagura, teenage samurai wannabe Shinpachi Shimura, and their giant dog Sadaharu. Though the latter of course generally does nothing but eat, sleep, excrete wastes and bite people.
Character Personality: Gin is an extremely laid back character who enjoys the simple, sweet things in life. Emphasis on the sweet. Gin loves his sugar, and is on the verge of developing diabetes, but pays no heed to doctor's warnings and simply states he will live a short and fat life. (of course, being the protagonist of the show, he's never going to get diabetes. :P)
He generally does not like to beat around the bush, and will tell you up front if he has a problem with you, making him exceedingly blunt and brutally to-the-point. He is also unafraid to voice his opinions on personal topics and actually appears to go out of his way to make crude references to male and female body parts alike. On this note, he is also quite the talker, but he generally goes on with irresponsible nonsense that doesn't quite lead anywhere and often makes unusual analogies, such has likening money problems to a nasal infection (his words were "don't pick at it, and it'll go away"). It should be noted that Gin has a bit of a short temper, though his rants are usually made to a comical extent and generally played for laughs in the series.
He also does not seem to mind picking his nose in public; to say he has no shame is an understatement.
Gin refers to himself as ' young at heart', in that despite his age, he is still madly addicted to Weekly Shounen JUMP, and canon has made it obvious he will go through many lengths to obtain his weekly guilty pleasure, including scouring the entire city, and fighting a ninja for the last copy on top of a moving truck. He not-so-secretly wishes he had a Bankai just like everyone in Bleach. In addition to this, he is also knowledgable in various video game series such as Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, and pretty much everything else that's mainstream in today's society. Fourth wall breaking is inevitable, though he'll be convinced he's merely immersed in a world of insane cosplayers at first, if only because he's a closet fanboy himself.
His lesser qualities aside, Gin is a man who holds familial love and friendship in extremely high regard, and though he is usually seen arguing and even violently wrestling with his younger partners, he cares deeply for them and has slightly fatherly tendencies, which he conveys in his own unconventional ways. He is loyal to his bushido, and though it has since adapted to suit what is now his everyday world, he will do everything he can to protect what he deems worthy of protection. His respect is usually instantly won when he sees someone standing up for what they believe in, and if need be, he will risk his life to aid them.
Having faced his own trials in life, he may act as though he has moved on, but he has his own ways of keeping his memories within him. Though the reasoning has yet to be explained, his wooden sword has the kanji for 'Lake Touya' carved into the hilt. Though the sword itself has been broken several times, he has always had it replaced with the exact same sword, with the exact same kanji, indicating that the place holds some sort of significance to him. Though when asked about it, he simply dodges the question and passes it off as an old joke. From this, it can be said he does not like to directly dwell on the past, but he remembers the paths he has walked very vividly in his own ways.
Overall he is quite easy to get along with if you're able to put up with his derogatory speech and borderline disgusting habits. He is a good friend at heart, and perhaps an even better ally, if you play your cards right, and if you're ever in a pinch, he'll be there to pull you back on your feet, complaining right in your ear the entire way.
Character Abilities: The only thing of note is Gin's physical strength, which could be considered extraordinary for a normal human being in the Gintama universe. His style of swordplay is noted to be of his own making.
Perhaps it should be said that Gin possesses a bit of a silver tongue? That isn't to say he's charismatic, rather, it extends into his ability to talk utter nonsense, and adapt to situations on the fly.
Character Weaknesses: Where money is not concerned, Gin is very lazy, and often seen lazing about on a couch with a copy of Shounen JUMP resting over his face. To make him get off his behind, he'd need the prospect of a job, or the offering of sweets or alcohol. Basically, you need to appeal to his likes in order to get him to do anything. Unless you've done something to his nakama, then he's going to come for you no matter where you run to.
He is very, very poor at managing his money; despite being broke half the time, he'll still take his earnings down to the pachinko place, or the nearest hostess club and spend it all without batting an eye.
On a serious note, wherever his bushido is concerned, he is extremely selfless, and he won't hesitate to let himself take the hit if it means others will be getting out safely; the fact that he's a Weapon, and unable to call the shots per se, is seriously going to clash with his morals. He will want to stay behind, but having to be wielded by another person in order to be effective might cause some problems. (Throw in the constant arguing with Zura, and ohhhh boy)
[ WEAPON ONLY SECTION ]
Why your character should be a Weapon: Potential lulz with Katsura aside, as a samurai, he is a blade that protects what he deems important; a sword that will cut down any who harms what he cherishes.
What is your character's Weapon form?: A wooden sword, more specifically, his own wooden sword, complete with the engravings on the hilt. It's essentially a normal bokken, of perhaps the same length as a katana, and lacks any sort of guard at the base of the blade. The reason it suits him? The sword has been with Gin through thick and thin, and though it's been broken in the series before, he has always had it replaced. If it isn't important to him, it's certainly symbolic of him.
The sword:

- In the series, it's noted that his sword (bought from infomercials on TV) is made from a 10,000 year old alien tree and is nigh unbreakable unless under immense stress. As a result, the sword is able to cut through most objects, including steel, as Gin has utterly destroyed a cannon with it before.
[ SOUL INFORMATION ]
Soul Description: Lazy, stubborn, lethargic, blunt, unenthusiastic, crude
Soul Appearance: Gin's soul is silver in colour, and possibly instantly recognisable as Gin by the atrocious silver perm it has, accompanied by small half-lidded eyes. The mouth is drawn into a tight line across the face, and he looks oh-so-bored.
[ SAMPLES ]
First Person:
[There's some very obvious grumbling coming from the communicator before you hear a rather violent click as it switches to video. You can see Gin sitting in front of the communicator which he's apparently placed in front of him on the table. His arms are folded and he looks... upset to say the least.]
All right, all right, Gin wants some answers and Gin wants them now. What's this crap about me being a Weapon? Now, I don't know if you guys know this, but where I come from, I'm the main character, the TITLE character of the damn show! Don't you think it's only NATURAL that I'd be a Meister?
Coming to Death City, I thought [His face twists into mock glee at this point, and his voice is roughly two octaves higher to emphasise.] "Hey! Wow! Maybe I can finally attain Bankai like Ichigo, and be a REAL Shounen Jump protagonist! Friendship! Effort! Victory! Profiiiit!" [Aaaaand now we return to his rage face.] BUT NO!
[He slams both hands on the table] 300 YEN ISN'T GOING TO BE ENOUGH COMPENSATION FOR THIS, OI.
[Sigh. Just leave him be, he'll get over it in a while.]
Third Person:
If Gin was honest with himself, there was a sense of satisfaction stemming from the light-hearted banter between the heads of the two "rival" clans. Things had returned to how they should be, and that alone was payment enough. All Gin felt he wanted at that time, was some cheap booze and some friends he could laugh along with, and he fully intended to act on that desire. Leaving behind a large feast in his name was a little saddening according to the superficial side of his mind, but he figured riding out his sentimental high at Otose's place would be just as, if not even more fulfilling.
"Alright, Patsuan, Kagura, we're gonna go all out tonight. You guys can have as much Oronomin C as you want, Gin's not gonna hold it against you."
There was a celebratory shout of "kyahoo!!" from Kagura as she leapt forward, spinning and twirling with her umbrella, and Shinpachi followed suit to restrain her. Gin sighed, but perhaps only half as dicontent as he appeared, and with half a smile on his face, he raised a hand by his mouth to bellow out to the two kids running ahead.
Except... they were gone. Or rather... a quick look around him, and he noticed that he was the one that was gone. A dark room had replaced his starlit sky, and two looming statues stood where his younger partners were supposed to be. Any good feelings Gin might have had were gone in an instant.
"Waitwaitwaitwaitwait! Hold up!" Gin wasn't entirely sure who he was speaking to, but keeping to himself wasn't exactly his style. "Give me a break, oi! We just finished a serious arc! Don't you think it's a bit too soon to be jumping into this? Don't I at least get an episode to relax? I HAVEN'T EVEN READ THIS WEEK'S JUMP YET! WHAT ARE YOU GONNA DO ABOUT THIS, SUNRISE YOU BASTARDS!!"
[ NOTES ]
Gin may or may not start asking for autographs from WSJ characters he fanboys.
