I know it's over and it never really began...
I think perhaps this is the 7th or 8th time I've seen Morrissey in concert and I swear to you, not to sound utterly cheesy, but it never, ever gets old!
Getting to the concert was an adventure all on its own. I drove with my pal Sandy all the way to Bakersfield, which is about a 2 hour drive north from Los Angeles. It also didn't help that the concert fell on the Friday before the long Memorial Day weekend. Eek! I tried Sonic's for the first time, which was cute. They have car hops!
Once I got to the Rabobank theatre, I was ready for some Morrissey. But first, I blew about 75 bucks in just merch. I got myself a Morrissey hoodie, a bracelet and a pillowcase. Oh yes. I didn't care. I was the epitome of fan-girl that day.
I had terrible seats, but who cares? As long as Moz sounds as clear as a bell, what's the big deal? My nose bleed seats meant nothing once Moz hit the stage and crooned/crashed his way through hit after hit. His voice sounded suave and romantic during “Please Please Let Me Get What I Want.” I melted during “Let Me Kiss You” and “I Know It's Over.” Morrissey was in a very easy and playful mood, which made things very confusing when during the last song of his encore “Still Ill” (my personal favorite) he started getting upset at security and then stormed off stage. Ah well. If you're a true Morrissey fan, you know that this is his standard mode. He's very diva-ish and is prone to fits of rage when security or some other outside force is encroaching on his performance. I consider myself a veteran fan, so I'm just glad he showed up in mostly good spirits. Great show! I hope he returns sooner than later. I drove back home with a flutter in my heart.
