Not mentioned above are two critical weaknesses of the Administrator type: inability to handle smart people (such as artists, scientists, and engineers) and being oblivious to their own emotional state.
The first weakness hurts the organization. Administrators often prefer for themselves to be visibly the smartest person on the team, the person who directs others into visibly productive channels. Notice the emphasis on the word visible: when the Administrator cannot understand the work performed by an underling they often discount both its value to the organization and the time required to do it, particularly when the underling goes beyond the call of duty to work on something urgently necessary that did not get included in the Administrator's original plan. The solution for the Administrator is to put personal pride aside and keep underlings in the decision-making loop, even if only as an advisory role. If not, the best and brightest ( ... )
