Nightmares from 2nd Grade

I'm not sure how I ended up on the TV Tropes page (and really, who ever is?) for the Nightmare Fuel book entry "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark", but I don't think clicking the links, even in full daylight, were the greatest idea.

I first read Scary Stories when I was in SECOND GRADE, and the illustrations still freak me out like WOAH.  I should not have read those things or looked at the horrifying illustrations at the tender age of 7, but somehow, no one thought to market the books to a higher age group.
I remember being haunted by those fraking pictures, and I still am.  Thanks, TV Tropes.

On the upside, those books hardened me to the concept of "scary", so X-Files never phased me at all (except in my fave ep, War of the Coprophages (Darin Morgan, marry me), when the cockroaches swarmed out of the toilet, and 7th grade Amanda decided that she was never going to the bathroom ever again), and scary movies tend to strike me as gorn or jump stories.  The one film which actually scares me, by my definition of scary (makes me modify my real life behavior due to fear), and that's the director's extended whizz-bang cut of The Exorsist.  I mostly blame subliminal stuff and reading too many books about The Warrens for that.

So here's that inevitable link to the page, and a friendly warning that reading the Nightmare Fuel-related pages when you're alone is mostly a dumb idea.
Halloween in a few weeks!!!!
