(Tangentially, I read an article this morning about the rise of repeating letters when typing words.)

I think that Waltz and Tarantino need to stick together.  They're raking in the Oscars ( Read more... )

I kinda want to file my own taxes this year, but I'm a bit worried I'll just screw it up and I lack the software to do it anyway. XD But it hurts every year to pay someone $60 for 5 mins.

We have this great program in the US called Turbo Tax. I put down 60 bucks, get the Federal tax forms and the state of my choice, and then I spend extra money so I can file for a second state (earned money in both Kentucky and VA last year). The program breaks down the info I need to enter in, and converts it to the tax forms.
It's surprisingly easy. I only had to call my Dad for government money legalese questions like, twice.

We have Turbo Tax here too, but at $60 I may as well go pay the person for the 5 mins to do it right rather than bluster through it myself. XD

I just realised this week that all my medical benefits forms had fine print "save this for tax season" and I've been ripping them up all year. WOOOOOPS. Though apparently all I need is the form showing I had dental work done. Hopefully. T_T

I'm seriously crossing my fingers that I get a return for once. Last year I had to pay $700, before that $400. I'm working for a legit corporation now that taxes me 13%, PLEASE GIVE ME A RETURNNN GOVERNMENT!

I also think I shall file earlier this year. I usually wait last minute, but apparently the earlier you file, the sooner you get your return. :D

Our federal taxes are due in early->mid April. I don't want to rush last minute so I did Federal +2 states today while I watched the Oscars.

I usually get a refund from the government because I initially have them deduct from my paycheck as Single, No Deductions. That means they take more from my paycheck, but I probably won't owe money at the end of the year and will probably get a refund.
I prefer to budget under less-than-perfect scenarios, so that works for me.
