I really like the italicized bits, like the voice in the back of his head. I like that Teresa still thought of him and that Arturo was actually doing well, even if you twisted it into tragedy.
I think you could write a fic about a piece of dirt and it would still make me flail with admiration and love for your stuff.

I liked the idea of killing somebody who had actually come through the justice system a better person. It's meant to rehabiliate as well as punish after all. But I never could resist the angst.
