I left a comment at ao3, but it was mostly a rant than a review... Just wanted to say that this is very beautifully written. I don't read Elyan fics, but now I'm thinking I should. It got pretty emotional for me, reading about Elyan and his forge, not gonna lie. You've captured him so well in here. At least it's very believable, consistent to what we see of him on the show.
Also, this fic is giving my feels for the rest of the season. I would have preferred the show to be more focused on Merlin's character, because so far this season he hasn't actively done anything. I would have bought it as an understated way of showing his growth in wisdom and loyalty, doing things after weighing pros and cons, but it still felt like he wasn't even trying (like he could have saved Elyan, surely). But seeing him comfort Percival in this fic, reaffirms my faith in his character. And the direction the shows going.
sigh
And dear Percy. Last week's ep was also about him as well. The poor guy.
haha Rants are fine by me. ;) I'm so glad you think I captured Elyan well; he was such a fascinating character, as is Percy. And yes, I always imagined Merlin being that guy who keeps the knights sane. He's just as important in the group as any of the knights.
