[Political rant, sorry] I feel so sorry for my country.

Apr 15, 2008 01:16

Sorry for the following rant, guys. It's probably nonsense for most of you, but  I need to vent.
I'm also sorry for any typos or mistakes!

THEY (I did not give my vote to that delinquent) elected Berlusconi for Prime Minister again.
Maybe you don't know who is he or what's so wrong with him. The saddest thing is that most of my compatriots don't know ( Read more... )

That is unsettling. Reminds me a bit of when Bush got re-elected and people started talking about moving to Canada. Except Bush is mainly stupid, incompetent, and arrogant, whereas this Berlusconi guy sounds deliberately criminal. =/ How long do prime ministers serve there? I hope things don't turn out too badly...

5 years. :/ Exactly the time it will take me to graduate from Uni, look for a job and try to live on my own with my own salary. HAHA. The average salary here is currently less than 1000 euros. House rents alone are about the same price. How are people my age supposed to live?!
And I'm afraid that with this criminal prime minister it won't get any better, since it was him who introduced the new precarious job system. I can totally see my projects crashing down... -_-

I've always been really impressed with your grasp of English, because having visited Italy on numerous occasions I had the chance to experience first hand people's lack of knowledge of foreign languages, and had to rely solely on my Italian to get myself around.

As far as politics go, tell me about it! We had to suffer through a similar political tyranny less than a decade ago... Serbia as well. The frightening thing is that it seems as if nothing can stop these guys except death itself. Makes one truly loose hope in democracy. The meddling of church into politics is an issue here as well. You should hear the militant, nationalistic sermons the priests over here feed to the "poor in spirit". I'm with you - the only thing to do is emigrate. But where to, that is the question. :P

I had no idea you had problems with the intrusive church as well! (See? I'm ignorant! =D)
I know what you mean, it's ridiculous that we can only choose between the same old politicians that have been around for 30 years, no matter what they did in their past. I do not consider my country a democracy anymore! Is it any better for you now, except for the obnoxious church?
I'm ashamed of what the world thinks of us, and of the bad impression given by our ignorance.
I've just read an article from The Times commenting Berlusconi's election.. It really makes me feel ashamed to be Italian, and the saddest thing is that it's all right and true!

Concerning emigrating.. Politically and socially speaking, I am partial to Spain. I also like northern countries or the Netherlands but I need sunny and warm weather, it's in my genes =P
Now, finding the money necessary to move to another country and start all over again, that's a whole other problem. =/

It's not even that good when compared to other Europen countries'. I've been to Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Spain, France... they all do much better. (Ok, French people do tend to stick to French, but I think it's more a matter of pride than ignorance, lol!)

England is one big hub of corruption regarding the media and politics too ( ... )
