Suits 1x1 running commentary

So... Suits. That happened.

Beware, I had a hate/love relationship with the episode. Please don't click if you're going to be upset by all my bitching. This is just what I do.

OMG, the pilot was a mess, and IA about the wonky Mike characterization which made it almost unwatchable. But the show does get better imo, I'd say it hasn't really started to shine until the last couple of eps.

I will say one aspect the show does [mostly] right is the Harvey/Jessica dynamic. I'd worried that Jessica's role would be reduced to Genius Wrangler; to my happy surprise there's genuine mutual respect beneath the delicious snark. I may even ship them a little. And of course Gina Torres is BOSS...in every sense of the word :)

But yeah, it's a breezy USA show, I try to curtail my expectations and watch for the banter :P (which can be brilliant at times)

So the Mike characterization gets much more even? I might be able to watch another episode then... do you suggest that I go straight to 1x2 or skip to another one? Hell, let's get real: which other episode should I watch to help me read fic? heh.

(though for reals, I am sad that Harvey/Mike is the fandom OTP)

Okay, so I totally wanted Mike/Luis to be a pairing for the fandom. Luis is kind of an asshole but he also is *there* and he has reasons to be! And Mike can totally manipulate him, if he needed to, etc. So, yeah. *nods*

hmmm... I might be able to get behind that.

Though, not gonna lie, my heart still burns for Mike/Trevor/girlfriend.

Still, I have to say that I think White Collar is my favorite just because (1) Matt Bomer and (2) there is absolutely no universe where the relationship that Neal and Peter have is strictly platonic. At all. Or so I choose to believe.
Yes, I've watched some White Collar on and off as well. I can't resist the pull of Neal/Peter/Elizabeth. I am weak!

and I have a lot of trouble with law shows these days, because I work in law, now, and I just keep pointing out all the really stupid things that make me yell
*nods* I generally just... can't. With law, I just worked in the office of a small firm once and never entered a court room, and it's still too hard for me to watch law shows because... just too silly.

And The Wire ruined me for all cop shows ever.

But mostly, it's any show based around primarily stand alone episodes. IMO, you just CAN'T do a decent job with a mystery/case/closed storyline in 45 minutes. It can't be done. (though obviously I will go there for good fanfiction. see icon.)

have these vision of some good samaritan ( ... )

I read the best review of it ever once: You have to love a show that when you say I love that episode where the Senator was found dead in the hot tub with his mistress you have to ask "which one?"

A) This show's middle name is ridiculous. It comprises 10% fake law, 30% witty banter, and 60% Harvey and Mike making heart-eyes at each other.

B) This show gets better after the pilot. Way better. But not in episode 2.

C) This show is tres gay. It is so very very gay. wearemany and I are confounded weekly by how it manages to become demonstrably gayer with each succeeding episode. It doesn't seem possible, but somehow it is. It is a ridiculous, crazy, charming, very gay fake-law show.

Bottom line, keep watching.

okay, instruct me! Do you have any particular episode recs? Will I stop wanting to beat Harvey to death?

btw, me even watching this is completely wearemany's fault, with her damned delicious.

Yes. But you will not entirely stop rolling your eyes at the ridiculousness; you just won't mind so much. [Side note: I was afraid that without_me wouldn't want to watch, that being a Harvard law grad herself in a former life she would find it too painfully bad/wrong. But she tells me the suspension of disbelief is pretty complete. I tell you this to give you courage ( ... )

I never realized how many times they say "closer" in the pilot until you pointed it out. Come to think of it, the first episode was kind of a mess. I was watching with my brother who felt obligated to swoon over Harvey's "closing" abilities every commercial break so I never realized it.

Mike is adorable and Harvey will get better. He sometimes gives effective pep talks and of course, is nice to look at. (I'm shallow, sue me.)

Lewis is hilarious and you'll be seeing so much more of him.
