Announcement: Myshuno! 2014

Sep 15, 2014 20:36

Good eeeeeeevening.

It is September 15th, and that means it is once again Myshuno! time *dramatic music*

Myshuno! is our annual fall prompts challenge. It's basically writing Bingo--instead of numbers, you fill your card with prompts provided by other people! This is our fourth Myshuno! event; the first three times, it produced a LOT of awesome short pieces and we had a respectable percentage finish both Myshuno! AND blackout.

If you haven't participated before, never fear, our rules/FAQ provided below are here to help you out! You can also go look at the past Myshuno! event posts in our friendly sticky announcement to see what happened in previous years.

The Basics

This is an October to December challenge for Sims writing. You will have a Myshuno! card with twenty-four prompts on it, and the goal is to write up as many of those prompts as you can before January 1, 2015.

The Rules

1. If you want to participate, sign up using this form:

Name: (this can be your LJ name and/or whatever else you're generally known by)
Story/Stories: (these are the project(s) you will be writing for and want prompts for)
I would [not] like... (this space is for you to list anything you especially want or anything you are not willing to write. For example, if you want to include smutty prompts, or if you want a certain category of prompt such as lyrics. Please try to keep it to two or three specific likes or dislikes.)

2. Once you have posted, other people may respond to your post with prompt ideas. This can be anything (bearing in mind any limits the person puts on what prompts they're willing to do): situational, specific characters, lyrics and quotes, etc. Note: If you do sign up, please try to leave at least one prompt for as many people as you can. If you are not familiar with their story, it can be something vague like a situational prompt.

3. Make up a Myshuno! card. You do not have to use every prompt idea you get (you will only have space for twenty-four prompts on the card, because there is a free space in the middle as with Bingo). We will post a generic prompt list in a couple of weeks, just in case your card needs some padding out. Once you have finished making your card, let us know, and we will freeze your comment thread.

4. This challenge has two milestones!

First: achieve Myshuno! by writing fics or drabbles from your card prompts! If you write something for a prompt, you can cross that prompt off your card. If you cross off five in a row horizontally, vertically, or diagonally, you can claim Myshuno! Note: Your piece must be at least 100 words to count.

Second: achieve a blackout by writing up all the prompts on your card.

Note: The free space in the middle of the card is not an "author's choice" space (unless you want it to be!), it just means that you get automatic credit for that space.

The Schedule

September 15-30: Sign-ups/prompting/card creating
October 1: Challenge begins!
November 1: Deadline for Myshuno! claims
January 1: Deadline for blackout claims

Guidelines for claiming will be posted closer to the start date.

FAQs from Previous Years

Please read these before asking any questions! We might already have answered whatever you want to know.

Q: Can we post lyrics and quotes as prompts?
A: Absolutely. Whatever you want to prompt is okay as long as the person you're prompting won't hate it. (Comm rules on appropriateness do apply, though.) No one will use all their suggestions since there are only twenty-four spaces on the card, but you may end up giving them something they really want to use!

Q: Can I fulfill more than one prompt with the same story?
A: No. One prompt per piece. You must have five unique stories to claim Myshuno! (or four, depending on if you use the free space), and twenty-four unique stories to claim a blackout.

Q: Are cowrites allowed?
A: Allowed and encouraged! In the case of a cowrite, each writer contributing to the story may use one prompt from their own card. In short, one prompt per person per piece.

Q: Can I use the daily prompts from the comm along with my card prompts?
A: Yes, and you can use as many of the daily prompts as you want in the same piece--we've never had a limit on those. Just state which prompts are which, and make sure you only use one prompt from your card at a time.

Q: Is there a minimum word count for prompt responses?
A: Your piece must be at least 100 words to count. That's around the standard minimum word count for a "drabble" and shouldn't be too hard to get.

Q: Where do we post our pieces?
A: On your own journal, with a header that states which Myshuno! prompt you're using and how many words the piece is. When you have enough to claim Myshuno! or blackout, you will then link both your card and the pieces to Simspiration in a post we will put up specifically for claims.

Q: I'm so excited about all these prompts! Can I start writing now?
A: You may not start writing up your Myshuno! cards until October 1. However, if you got a prompt you know you won't be putting on the card, but you still want to write it, you can use it whenever you want.

Q: I have completed more than one Myshuno! Should I make a claim for all of them?
A: If you get ONE Myshuno!, you complete that part of the challenge. If you do more, great job! Try for a blackout. You will only get credit for Myshuno! once.

Q: Can I write for a story I haven't started posting yet?
A: By all means! If this challenge helps you get started on something new, that's fabulous.

Q: Can I join in after October 1st?
A: You may, but bear in mind you'll lose the card prep time, and you may not count anything you've written before submitting your completed card. If you do jump in after the start date, jump up and down to let the mods know, so we can point people to give you prompts.

Q: Can I put more than one prompt on a space?
A: Sure, every year people combine two or more prompts they receive on one space. Some of them may compliment each other or just inspire the same idea.

Q: Can I leave a prompt for someone even if I'm not participating myself?
A: Absolutely. Anybody can submit prompts to the participants, but remember, start off with three or less.

THIS IS NOT THE SIGN-UP POST. Here is where you ask questions if you're confused or make any other general comments about the challenge. There is a separate sign-up post here.

We hope you enjoy the challenge, and we're really looking forward to creating stories with you all!
