I picked up one of those in a thrift shop too. Mine was minus the box and paperwork, and is missing the battery door (of course!) It works fine as long as you keep the 'keyboard' very clean. If yours is an original, it should be all discrete electronic parts. The re-issue uses an IC.

Mine is an original. I was wondering about it too when I saw there was a re-issue, but one definite difference is the lack of a volume control, which the re-issue has. Also says 'Made in Hong Kong' on the back. Been a long time since that was printed on anything!

Is it the original Rolf Harris version?

It appears to be. The re-issue had a volume control on it where this one does not. The book with it has a copyright of 1968 in it and that's it.
