You pay money to buy a virtual island or house in this complete virtual world. It's bizarre. You create your own people too.

I think you can try some stuff free but there is a cost once you create characters and homes, and it says there is some kind of monthly membership fee of about $9.95, despite the 'free membership' claim the home page makes.

You don't have to own land. I paid a flat $10 once and I have a lifetime character. I only have to pay monthly if I want to own land (I did at one time but not anymore).
