Are Greedy Teachers the Problem?

I think public speaking is a valuable skill that should be taught in school. As a future teacher, I hope to train my students in many areas, including public speaking. In my opinion, part of being a good speaker is taking time to do some research on your topic and learning how to process information logically ( Read more... )

it's dismissive and often frustrating how blithely some politicians try to address educational needs in soundbites. :o

I have mixed feelings on this issue, since both of my kids have had teachers who weren't doing their jobs and should have retired, but could not be fired due to teachers' unions and tenure.

They've also had wonderful teachers who have made an amazing impact on them.

"It's a Biblical principle. If you double a teacher's pay scale, you'll attract people who aren't called to teach.I don't see how that's a Biblical principle in any sense. Does the speaker just like throwing "Biblical" around in a kneejerk God-and-country way ( ... )

I thought this was an excellent and well documented essay. While growing up, I was fortunate to have many wonderful and talented teachers, and I know they made a huge difference in my life.
