If "windows in time" was the prompt, then yes (I didn't realize you were writing for a prompt!). :) I like the way you flesh out the metaphor, especially using freeze tag. I was just trying to remember all the rules of freeze tag, in fact. :)
This really made me think. Sometimes, we get caught up in our own lives, and we forget about our friends and acquaintances. Maybe we don't do it on purpose. Maybe it just happens. I don't know. What I do know is that it's really, really sad when you realize that the window has been closed.
First. I love this so hard it hurts. Like, literally, it made something in my stomach clench up. This is so, so lyrical.
Second. Eff the prompt. I have never ever cared if it had to meet the topic or not. 'Break the mold if it don't fit.' This is lovely, and the idea serves as an undercurrent, and it stands beautifully on its own.
Read it again. Hurts just as good. "At your touch, they became who they used to be." I LOVE this image. So, so much. It's so heartachingly simple.
Yes, it is real to me, because this process happened to my two closest friends. The weather changed. They took out their doors, they changed the keys. It still hurts.
Sad, and so true. You have captured that sadness, same with my friends, golden times of laughter, and then they move on. A few are the same, but some we just lose for no good reason, as you say times change.
My 'freeze frame' moment? I woke one Sunday morning to my three children happily playing and singing a song together. It was several decades ago, but its a special moment. Then everything changes.

Thanks for reading. It really means a lot to me that people read.
I hope you make it back to the game. Are you all healed and well now?

Well, hopefully it fits somewhat.
I'm glad the idea of freeze tag made you smile.

I'm sorry you have had that feeling too. It does go down deep.
I guess I'm trying to force myself to stop spending so much time looking at closed windows.

I was just trying to understand why...what could I be thinking that things end up the way they do.

Anytime all 3 are happy at the same moment, I try to savor the moment.
