Title: "All The World's a Dollhouse"

Round and round, round and round.

I coasted down the narrow path, standing hard on my brakes when I reached the door.

When I was eleven, I thought of my bike as that pony I had always wanted, the tassels on her handles waving in the wind like a long, trailing tail.  Like any proper horse, she had a name.  Abigail ( Read more... )

Awwwww. Very cute. Sometimes I think it would be neat to go back to those days in which we played with dolls and lived different lives trough them.

I'm so glad you liked it. You are the first person to read it.

I'll tell you a secret..I sometimes play dolls with my daughters and make up what their dolls say. I don't have my old dolls in the photo above (my 4 younger sisters played with them and lost or broke them) but my 5 year old has a Strawberry Shortcake that looks a lot like the one above.

One really fun thing about being a mom is the excuse to play with toys again:)

I play with toys anyway! I don't need kids because I'll always be child-like and play. I loved playing dolls and had my dolls be pregnant much the same way. I love the level of detail here.

I play a more adult accepted version of dolls when I play The Sims by the way ;)

I really liked this entry.

Wonderful story. You capture your childhood well. We had Barbies but no babies. Ironically, I always called my Ken doll the name of my husband, decades before I met him. What can I say? Always loved that name.

It's amazing you married someone with a name you loved before you met him:)

Very cool! Thanks for sharing!

What a sweet story. You really captured the feel of playing make-believe before or without TV and internet. I am glad you carry that on with your 5 year old because such imaginary play is becoming a lost art, I'm afraid.
I teared up at the line when you said you felt your Dad actually saw you.

The last line was special, Dad doing something just for you.

Our inventive play with dolls was like yours, and its something children miss sometimes, that imginiative phase. Too many real things bought, so no room for make believe. We made tea from weeds that grew, and had little baby dolls we made from discarded socks. We filled them with cotton wool, and painted eyes and a mouth.

Loved it.

I made sock puppets and I made a lot of things like tea from plants and dirt etc. I was outside a lot too.

We have several outside games we played like Tarzan and Jane. I was mad about that story for awhile.

It's true that many children seem to have lost their ability to imagine. My 3 kids still have it but they don't use their imaginations as much as I did. Too often they want to be entertained by TV etc

Thanks for sharing your memories. I enjoy learning more about you:)
