I had meant to point out that the time isn't wasted either. When I left my ex, I wanted to think of it that way too... But no. If I hadn't lived those years, I wouldn't know what I do now and I wouldn't have experienced a lot of things that put me where I am today. It sucks... But it's not a waste. Nothing you experience in life is a waste.
8) I have learned that just because your dreams and goals have to change, that does not mean you are a failure. I feel as if this one could pop up on your email calendar every day like a mantra, to help seal it in.
Circumstances and people change-- including you, including your husband. What is needed now does not have to negate everything that came before. Change is not necessarily failure-- sometimes, it's embracing 'possibility.'
I think that internalizing all of this will help you going forward, not just with what you need to do but also with being more forgiving of yourself in that it happened. Things do. Not recognizing them and re-evaluating what they mean... THAT's much closer to failure. And that isn't you!

We all do. If you do not learn something new every day, why get out of bed?
