Public vs Friends?

LJ question for y'all out there.

I changed the default on my LJ entries to be Friends quite some time ago.

I cannot seem to choose an individual entry to be Public --

Those of you that have done the same, have you encountered this?

Yes.

My default has been friends only forever.

Just recently, I tried to make a public post
and did not have the option to do so.

If you find out WHY LJ is (not) working this way,
please let me know.

"edit entry"? tkil August 30 2008, 19:50:19 UTC
I don't have "friends only" as my default, but when I'm viewing a single entry, I can use the edit button (the pencil icon); at the bottom of the next screen, there's a box that says "show this entry to:". Does that not show up for you?

I had tried to do the edit entry and pick Public from "show this entry to" before, but the Public option was grayed out and it didn't take.

I just now went in and can change it to Public, which I did with this entry.

Odd.

Dagdas_Nemain, is yours now working like mine?

When I set up my journal I initially tried to set it to private and figured I could then make any entries that I wanted to become public entries but I ran into the same problem you did. I had to just set the default to public and then change the settings to some of my entries on an individual basis. I never could make it work the other way.

What I found out (thanks to LJ-er tkil) was that if you save the entry, wait a bit, and then go back and EDIT the entry, you can change a Defaulted Friends Only journal to have the edited entry be Public, with no problem.

Hopefully that'll work for you as well.
