"I hope like hell that I won't live to regret this." Xander muttered quietly as Spike gently kissed his way along his neck.
"Shh, love. I’ll make sure you don't." Spike chuckled. "I’ll even make sure you get to heaven." He kissed the heated pulse point beneath his lips.
"Uh, we're speaking metaphorically, right?" Xander said, ever-so-subtly shifting his neck two inches to the right.
Spike dipped his head down, kissing air. Shocked, he said, "Say again?"
Xander wriggled away, into a seating position, shooting nervous glances at Spike. His eyes were wild, but blue. He had expected them to be yellow.
"What is it? What did I do?" Spike says, looking genuinely confused. And vulnerable. Xander felt a surge of guilt, but still, the fear was there, behind it all.
"It's just, I don't know, it sounded..." he began, breaking off at Spike's broken look. "See, this is what I mean, this can't work."
"What do you mean, can't work? Haven't even begun properly, have we?" Spike asked bitterly, his eyes shuttering closed as he leaned back into the cushions of the couch.
Xander crossed his arms protectively over his stomach, Spike unconsciously mirroring his pose.
For a long spell, silence reigned, deadly and still between them, Spike making no move to leave, Xander unsure as to whether he wanted him gone.
Xander's eyes fluttered slightly, he was tired. Lots of Big Bads to fight today, and the one sitting next to him was the best of the lot. Without thought, he slid down into the cushions, his head dangerously close to Spike's shoulder.
Tentatively, Spike slipped his arm around Xander's shoulder, pulling him in close. "Wouldn't bite you," he said poutingly.
"Even if I wanted you to?" Xander murmured.
"Especially if you wanted me to." Spike hugged Xander briefly, trying to be surreptitious and failing horribly.
"Sorry."
"Me, too. Could've been getting some right now."
"Said I was sorry."
"If you were really sorry, you'd be kissing me right now." Spike's eyes were bright, happy. Xander couldn't imagine how he'd thought Spike capable of...
"YOU'RE BITING!"
"You brought it up!"
Xander surprised himself by laughing, and pulling Spike back to his neck. It wasn't all that bad, actually.
He wasn't telling Spike that.
