why is it that the common man is "murdered," while the 'uncommon' man is "assasinated?" Martin Luther Kings, Jr. was assasinated. He was not. Because JFK was a great president, he was assasinated. Because he was a high school student, he was murdered. i wondered this thing when i was seven. what's the difference? is it a title? a number of years? a ( Read more... )

ive always felt that "assassinated" had to do with the intent behind the murder...
a person is assassinated when they are killed because of the effect they have on society. they were "assassinated" because they were someone in the spotlight, changing things globally, and hated for it by at least one person.
"murdered" however is no less tragic because, while the life may have been common at the time of its loss, if life had been lost years later, it may have been "assassinated" . . .

do i EVER make sense?

i miss you soulmate.

see you friday night... this time ill be in the audience watching YOU sing.

in order to kill someone who's in the public eye, you have to be covert about it, much more so than killing joe schmoe. this takes the actions of an 'assasin' rather that just a 'killer.' when you get right down to it, murder is one function an assasin fills, but the level of obfuscate action neccessary to kill a public personage would be a step beyond the inference of the word 'murder.' 'assasination' is used most often in describing how leaders are murdered; mlk jr. was considered a leader; jfk was the president, and hence a leader.

I get your point Kels, and I find it intriguing. It's something I'd never thought about before.
