Part 2: Caring

After a long and stressful week, me and five of my friends were having dinner at a Chinese restaurant called Kim Son near our college.  Every single one of us was having a bad week then.  One of my friends, was going through a situation where our college administration was denying her intern card, and as a result there was so much uncertainties and problems as to weather she would be able to complete this degree.  For someone who came this far in the doctorate program, working hard and passing all hurdles in the way, then one fine day while you are just a breath away from reaching your goal, they take it away from you forever.  I cant explain the pain that she has been going through in words.  But that evening we tried to leave all our worries aside and enjoyed that dinner.  It was awesome food, and the crème brule dessert was priceless!!

While we were waiting outside after our meal, there was a cute little asian girl who got our attention.  We said HI to her, she started playing with us for a while.  Then her parents came outside, we told them how adorable she was.  While we were getting ready to leave, this girl came and gave us hugs.  There was an old woman with her, who seemed to be her grandmother.  She asked us if we were college students.  She told us that she was there to celebrate the graduation of her son from a military academy. We told her to pass our Congrats to her son.  Then she just randomly told us that she could use some hugs.  She hugged us all and kissed us on the forehead like we were her own kids.  Not sure if it has the same effect when I write about it, but at that moment, this old lady just seemed like a universal mom to us.  It felt like she knew what we were going through!

When we were getting into our cars, she came to us and gave us all sunflowers that were grown in her garden.

Who would have ever thought that a hectic week like that would end on a sweet note like this…especially from a random stranger who we probably will never ever see again.  But she made our day.  We all had a wide grin on our faces through out the rest of the evening!

That day still brings a grin to my face, and I wish there were more universal moms, brothers and sisters like her out there!
