Had a good day today. I was out sick on Monday and Tuesday, so I felt WAY behind on stuff when I got to the high school this morning. This led me to believe that I would have a bad day...not the case. I finally got IMEA results (which actually came Monday...but I believe I already mentioned the sickness part) and was pleasantly surprised to find

hi. i'm sarah smith, i went to millikin. dated ian wick for a long time. anyway, he told me to look at your journal because i am in my first year of teaching, too . . . elementary art.

you know, i'm teaching in a very urban school district and travelling between 3 schools. i see a lot of students who have behaviors and habits that are putting them on a track to a very dangerous lifestyle . . . but some of these babies have parents who are babies . . . 30 year old grandparents and so on. i don't think these kids want to throw their life away, they just can't see the forest for the trees . . . they have no idea that what they are doing now will affect the rest of their life. sometimes these behaviors and expectations are passed from generation to generation . . . it is just what they know. they might not know how NOT to end up a bum. it's not that they want to . . .

That sounds sort of like my situation, I student taught where Jacob teaches now, now I'm long-term subbing at an urban middle school and suburban high school... I know what it is like teaching people definatley down the wrong path. It's tough. But you do what you have to do.
