Question: Default replacements VS Hiders for default clothing

I love the idea of default replacements and think that most of the outfits people use are things I'd download anyway-- which got me thinking. In terms of keeping my downloads folder small and increasing game speed/decreasing lags ( Read more... )

Since every default replacement is actually a file, they don't actually reduce the number of files you have. So if your game is lagging because of sheer number of files, default replacements don't address that problem. But neither do hiders.

If your game isn't lagging because of sheer numbers of files, but it's painfully slow to page through the catalog, then the question is: what is your ideal catalog size? If it's about the same size as a catalog with no cc, only you want custom outfits in there, then default replacements probably address the problem better. If your ideal catalog size is smaller than that, and you're going to replace only some of the outfits, probably you'd go for a hider and outfits. Or some combination.

Neither is technically better: the game loads up the installation files, then looks at any mods/CC you have and loads those up. Regardless of if you choose hiders or default replacements, the game will still load up the clothing files before hiding/replacing them in accordance to your CC. Technically hiders are 'better' as they're smaller files (a few kb compared to hundreds [or thousands on occasion] of kb), but then you have to balance that with any non-default clothing you have in.

It's all up to personal choice: would you prefer having a similar number of outfits that you have in EPs/SPs, but having them all customised to how you like (default replacements), or would you want more options on the clothing you can have rather than waiting to see if someone replaces an outfit you like, or learning to do it yourself (hiders + cc).
