It's because they make something. It's not right but I've seen it happen time and time again with the Sims community where actual scum will be allowed to exist undisturbed in the community because they're creating people want.
this. people are happy to overlook it because they want to use the mod and don't want to call them out, or excuse the shit if it's a popular creator. but on the other hand if you bully a rando on tumblr for commenting on a minor's posts, that's fun! you get to pretend to be morally superior! and if they leave, so what, goodbye rando, no one will miss you. but if you go after someone who creates a mod that so many people use/want... well that's not fun. you don't want to run the modder out of town because then you won't get to have your mod updated anymore. and to be fair it's not just the sims community where this happens, look at all the scumbag celebrities who are known creeps but get by with it because people like their movies or music or whatever.
