I don't like most of the apartment lots that came with the game, and haven't looked at too many that are around, but when I came across Flabaliki's
Movie Set - Suburban Street lot, I thought that it would make a great set of apartments. Even though they're technically houses.
I wanted a place that had a proper community feel to it, where there was plenty of room for kids and for their families to grow. Most apartments that I've seen are great for one or two sims, but not for when they have kids. I also wanted to have pretty much all the goodies available to them that they could get in a normal house, but without taking up their living space. Now, I may just be missing it, but I couldn't see any TOU on Flabaliki's MTS2 site, so I have no idea what his preferences/rules about uploading are. But if you like it enough to want it, see the bottom of the post.
There are eight houses all up, and all have two large bedrooms, two bathrooms, with plenty of living space. They range from $3156 to $4251. That's a week, isn't it? I can never remember. I haven't used apartments much before this, because most of them didn't meet my needs.
There's a large community park out front, with plenty of activities for the whole family - I've even included toddler toys, as well as the usual playground equipment.
You also have your basketball, soccer, chess, myshuno, and bbq area. I've also included a cat scratch tower, a pet food bowl, and a chew toy for dogs, and in my testing, they all worked fine!
The three front houses come with four fruit trees and a greenhouse (ladybug loft and compost bins included), for those sims who like to grub in the dirt.
The other five have one fruit tree each, and on the left is a pool, and the right a pond. I've play tested both of those, and they both work fine. I can't see fish in the pond, but I think that's because it's too narrow. The sim I used to play test - Caasi Marina, from my BB2 offspring - sucked at fishing and only fell over. So you have the option to fish, but whether you can catch any is a different matter :)
The view from the rear. I like it, I gotta say :)
Each house is decorated the same way, but in different colours, which happen to match the outside of the house. Each house also has a musical instrument on the top floor, so what you get when you move in will be a surprise! I wanted to give the non-playables something fun to do :) Also, that empty room next to the wardrobe? I left it empty on purpose, because I thought it could become another bathroom if needed, or perhaps a nursery. You'll only fit the crib in there, but it's a nice little hideaway for it.
The second floor has another bedroom, with plenty of room, and a bathroom. I've given each house a computer and desk, too.
The first floor has a bathroom, kitchen, combined dining/living area, and a little foyer with an easel and fish tank. Each house has a fully equipped kitchen, with microwave, food processor, stove, fridge, sink and garbage disposal. There's two bench spaces left for cooking, so don't make a mess! The living area has a tv, bookcase, stereo and gaming system.
Would you like a prettier tour?
This is what your sim will see as they walk home. Each house also has a colour co-ordinated bench outside their front window, so they can enjoy the view. Or woohoo. You know, whatever.
As they come into the foyer, this is what they'll see. I'll be putting one of the hacked coat racks by Numenor in there, because I think every house should have one, but didn't think I should include it.
There's a narrow little hallway to the living area...
which brings you into the lounge/dining.
And I completely forgot to take a picture of the kitchen. Oops! The kitchen floors in each house are different, but the colour scheme of the appliances/counters is the same.
I also forgot to take photos of the first floor bathroom, but it has a shower (with clear curtain), toilet and sink.
There's a study nook and telephone on the second floor.
With the doors to the bathroom (right) and bedroom (left) in the corner.
A nice tub, sink and toilet combo, with the medicine cabinet mirror that I just love to bits.
The first bedroom. It's quite plain, but I didn't want to go overboard. I like to decorate a room based on a sim's personality, anyway.
The room upstairs has the walk in robe.
And just enough space for a noise maker.
That's the best shot I could get of that room. I'm not sure why I bothered. Perhaps to prove that it is there? I plan on using that as a nursery, with the top floor being the parent's room, and putting single beds in the second floor room.
There's you little greenhouse, with just enough room to grow your favourite fruit and vegetables.
And it works! Say hi Caasi!
Now, onto the community part of the lot.
So you can see that the kid side is on the right, the teen/adult side is on the right. Though I have the hack that allows adults to use the playground, so everything except the toddler toys is available to them :) I wanted it to have a nice family appeal, but also to be good for all age groups. Something for everyone! A great spot to meet your neighbours, and maybe a potential love interest ;)
The bbq and sink work fine, though she fetched the hot dogs from her fridge, which is a bit more realistic, I guess.
The park works fine, well, the bits she could test, anyway. I don't have any kids or toddlers in this lot to check on their stuff :)
And like I said, the pond does work, but she sucks at it.
The pool may be narrow, but that's just enough room to do a few laps.
The back street in the lot, which has a few hopscotch games from previous residents. And this is where I realise that I forgot to put those lights in the yard probably. Bugger! You'll have to change the lotzoning to residential to fix that up, and then make it apartmentbase again. I'm sorry :(
Next to our park is the community centre, complete with drinking fountains on the back!
This floor is definitely for the adults of the lot. Party time in your own home!
And a family friendly gym. The tv I have on the wall there is one that only has the option for 'work out'. No random tv watching here!
And now for our tour of the community centre.
The top floor has your partying needs met quite nicely.
And downstairs will keep you in good shape!
At the entrance, next to the stairs, are vending machines offering drinks and snacks, and there's also a water cooler with the gym equipment.
Fishies!! I love my new computer :))
Now, the cars are decorative, but not to the locals.
The other tenants thought she was a bit bonkers, as she was playing by herself.
But the gym works!
And the best part of all of this?
ZOMBIE MATCHMAKER. I love it!
I have all the EPs and SPs, and you can get it
here. It is just over 18mb, but it's packed full of goodies. I strongly recommend using the clean installer, because there's a lot of stuff included. Like, the hopscotch games are actually rugs, and I didn't know what I could and couldn't include with those to make it work. If you do install it, please let me know how it goes and if there are any problems!!
OH I ALMOST FORGOT! I don't know how many of you know about this cheat, but you know when you go to move your sim into an apartment, it only comes with the basics? Well, turn testing cheats on, and then have them stand by the front door. Make sure there's nothing else in the queue, and then shift-click on the door, and you should get the option to "rent furnished apartment" (or something similar). No more redecorating! I only learnt that the other day. YAY!
I hope you've enjoyed this break from my usual stuff. I should be getting my files back any day now, so I can start working on my other stories again SOON! Yay!!
