Jayne has been killing people who annoy him left and right, by the time Zoe and Mal catch on. I suspect he even tried to kill River, only to find it didn't work cos Simon's grandfather had got there before him. :) I think he's rather upset at Mal for a bit after the notebook's gone, but like River says, Vera was starting to get jealous.

You ought to watch or read Death Note sometime - it's twisted and convoluted and awesome.

I will try to get to it, but to be honest, from all the rules it sounds a bit too heavy handed. I've read a few of the summaries what with the research for this fic, but it seemed just a bit too pretentious and overbearing for me. I fail, I know!

I'm so glad you liked it; it was meant to be a lot more light-hearted and I'm sorry that didn't happen! More Jayne, less Simon, but then Simon's family drama took over, and I couldn't think of any other way to get the notebook to him, anyhow - there's no way he would own one of those because he wanted to, it has to fall into his hand in a more haphazard way.
I do love love love the image of Jayne pulling out a notebook in the middle of a heist gone wrong and killing everyone off. It's just hilarious!

Just making sure I understand - 28 lines = 4x the rest of the crew's names, misspelled?

And yes, 28 is indeed 7 * 4. It's Simon, he wouldn't actually kill anything!
