True fact: one of my biggest issues with moving back to the USA this time around was having to give up European-style washing machines and laundry facilities. Sure, we may not have dryers everywhere, but our machines at least WASH clothes, and we don't have to scramble madly for coins to use them. So yeah, I feel Kurt's pain SO MUCH.

I'm so glad you liked it!

Oh...oh Kurt. Poor Kurt. I am...I am maybe laughing a little at you, but it is in sympathy.

(and guilt...I wash towels and jeans together)

This is adorable.

I hope you know Kurt is judging you very hard for that admission.

(I wash jeans and towels together when I'm in the USA, and I wash everything on cold. But when I'm home and have access to a real washing machine, oh, the hours I can will away sorting and resorting and choosing the right cycle and the right spin speed!)

Ah, I love this! I am exactly like your version of Kurt! I wear mostly vintage clothes, all of which require either hand washing or dry cleaning. And I'm neurotic about separating colors! (I've been known to do loads of laundry with two items.) My dorm mates used to tease the crap out of me! I'd walk in the door, immediately strip, and get out my basin to wash whatever I wore that day. God, what a weirdo. ;)

I guess my point is that Kurt's preoccupation with laundry is totally plausible, and I think your story is all kinds of flawless.

Thank you very much - I'm glad you liked the story! I'm not quite as intense as you, but yeah, when I started having to do laundry in college I just wanted to cry and rage in equal proportions. And I don't even own vintage!

This is so cute, I can totally see him freaking out about this. I live in a house that only has student flats and our washing machines are always broken, I don't know why. I guess people just don't know how to use them despite the very clear and multiple instructions taped to the walls. So yeah, it's not the same thing, but I feel Kurt's pain.

Also, who the hell washes towels with clothes? Just, what. XD

As an European, laundry in the USA makes me want to cry, seriously. Student flats are pretty dire, but you haven't suffered until you've experienced American launderettes... At least European machines wash clothes for more than thirty minutes!

And, haha, you'd be surprised re: towels + clothes. There's a lot of godless people around ;) And, when you have to pay so much money just for one load, you stop caring pretty soon.

Poor Kurt.

Eventually as a true New Yorker, he will learn the wonders of dropping off his laundry. Whereby we choose not to think about how it's washed and focus instead on the clean, sweet-smelling, folded clothes we receive back.

Cuz nobody wants to spend hours in a crowded, dirty laundromat. And he and Blaine aren't gonna be able to afford an apartment with a washing machine for quite some time.

Haha, eventually he will, yes. But until then the poor child is in for four years of terrible upsets and limited options.

And yeah, those kids are never getting an in-unit; but just like it was too cruel to have him discover that the clothes in the machine he'd emptied were Rachel's (and I was so tempted to!), it seemed equally harsh to disabuse him of that notion so soon... :)
