If you like or don't mind contract work, I'd point you at Aquent. It's a decent placement firm. It used to be one of the top design agencies, I don't know if it still is. I do know plenty of folks there still if you want a referral. They also do permanent placement, it's just that it sounds like you don't really want that right now, and that you'd rather be doing your art.
