Good news! My professor wants to keep me as her research assistant in the new year and communicate by mail and e-mail from Okanagan.

Bad news. I can't go to Okanagan with her. And all the social groups in my life are having their Christmas parties on the exact same evening of Dec. 4. I will only go to one. The free one.

Congrats! It must be a relief securing your plans for next year. Why is your prof going to the Okanagan?

Have fun at the Christmas party! (I think you should try to do more than one; after all, the opportunity for Christmas party hopping, as opposed to bar hopping, only comes around once a year...)

ah, it's only for two months, but I'm touched that she likes me enough to ask! I really really like being an RA -- I'm rather glad I didn't have to (or chose not to) teach. This is a better fit for me. It's like a much more focused, specialized form of my other job, using all my language skillz.

she's retiring and has a house on the lake, but she'll continue working on her books/projects/writing. I can see myself like that at 65 -- always keeping busy.

and yeah, you're right. much more classier than bar hopping. I'm pretty sure my work party will finish in 1h. Last time we had a party, I went to get some coffee and cookies from the staff lounge and came back to find everyone else putting chairs away. So onward to the next event, I suppose. My department has booked a fancy meeting hall at this fancy hotel. And my previous branch is going bowling. Oh, the options!!
