As petty as it was, he hoped Apollo's creatures were still upsetting him in all their minor little ways.
The further they drew away from the town, the more thunderous Hyacinth's heartbeat seemed, until he was certain that it could be heard.

It was, in reality, a sprawling property, with wide, open courtyards and olive trees; water trickling somewhere indicated a fountain. Apollo saw none of this, of course, but he did sense a power, ancient and subtle, like a fire that had once been quite great, but now content to burn low ( ... )
