Star Trek: Picard: 1x02: Maps and Legends

At this rate I am never going to catch up, but oh well.

Man, now my Trek AU fic is getting TOTALLY Jossed ahahaha oh no. Look, I swear that this major plot point of my story has already been in the story for, like, three years now.

Anyway, in this episode we learn that the Romulans living with Picard are former Tal Shiar and that there is an even MORE secret intelligence organization (to be fair, knowing Romulans, this seems plausible) called the Zhat Vash who for some reason have the secret goal of eliminating all artificial intelligence. I don't know why. Just because, I guess.

So we open with a flashback to the destruction of Utopia Planitia, and then the rest of it is Picard playing detective about Dahj's death because of course the Romulans have scrubbed all traces. He wants to be cleared to go back to Starfleet but he has some fatal medical condition in his parietal lobe -- weirdly, the doctor says his cardiovascular system is great and does not mention the artificial heart -- but clears him anyway, I guess, except over in SF the admiral tells him to fuck off, he's not getting a ship.

Meanwhile, in Borg cube land, Dahj's twin Soji has a job removing Borg parts from dead Borg, and she's also sleeping with Narek the Sexy Romulan, who is of course a spy for the Not Tal Shiar, whose sister is also embedded in Starfleet as a human. It's all very espionage. Anyway, they're still looking for information and/or death from Dahj's twin.

Meanwhile meanwhile, Picard has found some random woman who hates him who I guess has a ship, so he's gonna get a ship. Whee. I was hoping he would actually get a ship but I guess that won't be happening until next episode.

Still not sure why the Romulans want to murder all AI. I would like that explained. But I still really like this show. Man, I love Romulans so much. And Picard is like YES OF COURSE WE SAVE ROMULANS and... aww.
