Revelations

Feb 19, 2009 21:45

I have discovered that after 13 years of being together my wife has revealed her dismay at my book collection. It isn't that I hid them - they were in plain sight on book cases in the study.

The up shot of all this is that I realise that I do not fully understand my wife.

This is probably just as well.

Well come on, details! Is it the 59 Star Trek novels? The Crowley stuff? The Llewellyns? The Old French romances? or just the matching leather bindings?

Ok I had a weakness for fantasy novels and the odd sci-fi book as I was growing up. The only Llewellyn books I have are those that they produced before going into the pulp paganism stage (erm well I think so anyway). There are books about paganism of all shapes and hues. The odd book on languages I am sad to say Klingon is among them as well as Esperanto - relics of an idealistic youth - latterly Old English.

There is a section of books concerned with Role playing - Dungeons and Dragons. No these are not relics of a misspent youth but an attempt to get my older daughter to use her imagination rather than watching the TV.

An increasing amount of books about history - mainly Anglo-Saxon and Viking (big surprise there). Then there are the nursing books which I delve into from time to time for work.

In reality it isn't the quality which is varied but the quantity. Most of these books are hard-back the majority of paper-back books having been stored in the loft.

Always wanted a library.
