Or, maybe, just have not found the right people just yet?

Are your classmates primarily undergrad students? Is there any age difference between you and them?

I do not want to sound like I stereotype all undergrads and young people as lacking conscience and ability to think deeply - no. But I think that the reality for many is - not enough experience (both personal and professional) and immaturity. I don't get a chance to read much of what my classmates write (only when we work on projects together or when we had a class with on-line assignments) but they sound at least as interested and thoughtful and making sense. I do believe that once you get in graduate classes - or start working with real professionals (like Dr. Kabat-Zinn, for example :)) you'll see a huge difference. So, for you it is only a matter of time (and may be some luck) to meet the right people and no longer feel this loneliness.

some good points Olga. by the way, I don't feel this way all the time. And yes, most of my classmates are younger, without families and diverse life experience, and we are all undergrads.

I do appreciate my professors immensely. Just hoping there isn't a university equivalent of "teacher's pet"... I guess once you get into post secondary ed, that role may morph into assistanships and grants...

working with JKZ would be an absolute personal and professional delight. speaking of which...I think I'll design my research study with his organization in mind. perhaps if my design is good enough I can pitch it to him and see if we can get funding/support for MBSR with adolescents. (Most of his work focuses on adults, esp those with terminal illness)

thanks for the tip! I'll mention you in the foreword to the study ;)

well... whether this is devolving- or a very circuitous, wandering version of evolving- is yet to be determined. It's not over till the lady sings.
