Weekly Linkdump

Gosh, when did I last get a weekly update in on time? Anyways, it's a bit of a scary internet out there right now - between SOPA protests, DDOSes flying every which way, and Megaupload exploding in a cloud of international warrants and the remains of rather poorly thought-out incentive programs, it's probably best to keep your head down and your ( Read more... )

For me, what I noticed the most in "shingingray"'s PV was how huge Gumi looked. I don't know; it just seemed like she needed to be shrunk more to fit the background better. The tree and hallway were the two that stuck out the most for me.

Akikoloid continues to confuse me with these new songs. Is she allowed to be be used by other people besides Lawson? Is it some joint thing between the Ps?

I can't find any real details, but as I understand it, Lawson are going on a major promotional bent and handing her out to a whole bunch of different producers... but then, she's earmarked as part of the Vocaloid China lineup and is part of the stock V3 advertising, so really your guess is as good as mine.

It seems like Suzunosuke has been rather busy, it's the third video in two roundups and they're always so pretty.

Just a small note, I think the Chinese vocaloid is called Yayin Gongyu (and the song name is Jasmine). It's funny how they've decided to go along with a Japanese sounding name instead of a Chinese name. It's also odd that Yahama is marketing vocaloid in China without any mention of Miku or indeed any of the Crypton vocaloids. Maybe they're trying to move away from Miku = vocaloid in the international market.

Of all the merch to make, I wonder what possessed Sega to release a Miku punching bag o.o Going off on a tangent, this year's Snow Miku is rather cute though.

Ugggh, you're right, I knew that too but missed it in my 'dumb stuff' final sweep due to it being late as hell.

Yahama's marketing makes sense to me on two fronts:
- They want to specifically advertise the newest version of the software. Yamaha aren't worried about or responsible for Miku's branding, that's Crypton's job; they're only worried about getting customers the version of their software that isn't outdated.
- Miku's really too much of a 'Japan' thing now to go down effectively in China, having starred as the key subject in at least a few major spats and flamewars. I doubt it's a major tipping factor in not advertising her, but I can understand taking it into account.

So many new IA demos... "flexible" voices that works with different genres seem to be the in thing for newer Vocaloids, eh. Not that I'm complaining, I have high hopes for her release (it's next week, yay!)

Seconding the above confusion about Akikoloid - there doesn't seem to be any news of release, so what's with the increasing number of songs? Some "limited edition" release only available for certain Ps? /shrug

As I mention above, I think it's just that as part of their promotions they roll up to any producer that's doing well and offer access to the software.

I still think it would have been hilarious if the list was official and Miku ended up singing a supercell song.
