I've let a lot of people drift away from me over the years. I moved around a lot as a kid and learned that it's easier not to get too close, because in a year or two you'll be gone anyways. I left Gloucester after high school and never looked back, because I never fit there anyway. I shut out old boyfriends 'cause it just hurts less that way,

I don't try to avoid being close to people, I'm just really bad at it, but I feel the same way. I hear all the amazing stories from Amanda and Nick's other close friends and wish that I had gotten to know him better.

I was thinking of letting you know right away when he died, but I thought that bad news could wait rather than casting a shadow on Lucky's party. I hope that was the right choice.

Actually, Kiernan let us know at the party. I wished he hadn't at the time, but not knowing why so many people were missing would have felt pretty awful, too. Honestly, the shadow was pretty well cast when almost nobody who lived less than fifty miles away actually showed up.

Thank you for the post. It was good to read, I can honestly say I feel similarly about nick. I knew him, but I never knew him as well as I wish I had. You dont realize how much someone is an important figure in your life until they are gone entirely beyond reach.
