Almost nobody does, period, and most of those who do crosspost to another site. And I've certainly fallen victim to it myself. I can claim that I don't have the time to post daily or even weekly like I used to, but I guess in the end, LJ didn't keep up with the times. I post occasionaly and once in a great while when I'm daring try to get something more regular going, but they end up failing. Guess LJ isn't the media outlet it used to be.

The elimination of new free accounts didn't help. (You and anyone who reads you getting bombarded with ads =/= free.)
I think authors have stuck around in part because the obvious alternatives of Facebook and Twitter are not conducive to the kind of long, thoughtful writing many of them want to do.
