OOC: My Ideas for Jenna
Here's what I've been thinking about for Jenna's background. Of course I'm willing to discuss things with Jensen's Mun, especially anything dealing with their childhood and parents. Also willing to discuss father things with Stephanie Mun.
- Jenna Marie Jensen is the older sister of Jake Jensen. She spent her childhood acting mostly like a mother. Her parents spent a lot of time yelling and a lot of time throwing things. Sometimes, she was hit but it was a rare occurrence. Most of the abuse was ignoring the children, ridiculing their failures and taking out their anger on them.
- Her father was a truck driver, gone for long stretches of time and she has very little connection to him. Her mother was more interested in going out with her numerous boyfriends than in taking care of her children. Jenna cooked, cleaned, did the laundry and looked after her hyper active but incredibly bright little brother.
- Jenna spent her childhood doing everything she could to please her parents. She was as perfect as she could be, never acting out, never speaking out just being perfect. The only time she really got in trouble with her mother was when she protected Jake when he got in trouble.
- Her parents are still alive, but Jenna has very little contact with them. Her mother calls sometimes for money but really they don't see each other and don't have family get togethers. Jake is the only family she keeps in touch with.
- She is fiercely protective of her brother and loves him unconditionally. Raising him, taking care of him and looking after him got her through their rough childhood. He gave her something good in her life. Even now he could make any mistake, no matter how big, and she would help him.
- The only time she ever left him was when she went to college. She had to get away from her parents and went as far as she could for school. She would’ve stayed far away except in her senior year her boyfriend got her pregnant and she dropped out.
- Her plan was to marry her boyfriend, raise the kid while he was in school and build a wonderful family for herself. Her plans didn’t really work out. While they did get married, the marriage was rocky and Jenna was mostly unhappy with it. After her daughter was born and it didn’t get better she made the choice to divorce her husband and strike out on her own.
- She deals with her ex-husband, but mostly he's out of the picture. He didn't really want to be a father so his contact with Stephanie is limit. He does sent child support payments which Jenna puts towards Stephanie's college fund.
- She relied heavily on Jake’s support during this time, even though he was busy with the Army. She struggled a lot those first few years on her own with Stephanie, but had the support and the will to get through it and come out stronger in the end.
- She worked hard to get a house, worked hard as a paralegal and worked hard as a single mom. She has no regrets about any of this or any of her life. She knows she’s made mistakes but accepts them and moves on. Her outlook is optimistic, always.
- When Jake “died” she was crushed. It took a long time for her to bounce back from that, but she also started a strong friendship with Jolene because they were the only ones who cared about the Losers dying. She always believed that her brother was set up and has very negative feelings towards the Army for abandoning him.
- Having her brother show up alive was great, it was also painful because she had just started to heal and accept his death. There was a lot of hugging, a lot of crying and a lot of questions when he showed up again. There may have been some friendly, sibling hitting too.
- While she doesn’t have Jake’s genius with computers she knows a thing or two. She knows how to code and protect any emails she sends to him so that they stay private. Her brother taught her this so they could always stay in touch and stay safe.
- She does have a genius for languages though. Jenna absorbs them like a sponge and is a fantastic translator. She speaks seven: Spanish, French, German, Italian, Cantonese, Portuguese and Russian. She is currently contemplating learning an eight. Or sign language. She hasn’t decided.
- Her kidnap experience is something she hasn’t fully dealt with. On the outside she appears quite stable and for the most part she is. Max didn’t torture her or do anything really abusive but the full psychological damage and the physical damage from the drugs is still sinking in with her.
- She is a charmer. She is fantastic with people and is a fantastic mediator. She claims she can get anyone to like her with a little smile and a few minutes to talk to them.
