screw the beach. i dont allow people to see me in a bathing suit. i just pay 35 bucks for a month of tanning. and tan (in your case youll probably burn) till i like how dark i am.
i just have to take it one step at a time. i do tan very easily, i just cant be over exposed since i've made such an effort to AVOID the sun for so long. and by beach i mean A PRIVATE one where i can wear my bathing suit if i want and no one will get me confused with a beached whale ;)
i joined a tanning place when i was getting ready for senior prom. and then i hadn't tanned in a bed until last week. i really was getting toooo white. my makeup was actually getting too dark, i had to do something about it. i will probably tan 3 more times max. just to get my base tan. i don't really burn but i definitely wont now.
