hey hun, I am all for the giving same sex couples the right to marry, but I also believe that the proposition needs to be revised to make sure stupid people don't get sue happy. Once revisions are made I am afraid I have to vote yes on prop 8. :(
(people in CA and (in Am in general) are just way to sue happy and I can just see someone suing a priest or church or what not for refusing to marry them based on their religious beliefs. Sadly marriage is strongly tied to religion and passing this proposition the way it is, will bring government into religious issues and cause a lot of problems. )
Again I am all for same sex couples having the right to marry (it is not my place to judge someone's life style that isn't harming anyone, whether I believe in it or not) but I would really like to see the proposition revised to cover issues that may arise because it isn't stated in the proposition.
I see your concern... to clarifysingmeprettyOctober 22 2008, 19:50:06 UTC
Churches are by no means obligated to perform services they do not feel comfortable with. They cannot get sued because most churches are privately funded and the case will not stand. Defeating this proposition will not force any clergy member to step outside his or her bounds of comfort.
The problem is that this legal issue is tied to something religious. A No vote ensures the rights denied by the previous legal system to these couples. A Yes vote denies that and does nothing to protect churches.
