I'm confused. What do you mean by "I tried out a kitten" and that the kitten "didn't do so hot here?" Aside from the landlord issue...kittens take a while to adjust. I got my kittens together in my old apartment and they hid under my bed for an entire week and ran there everytime I came near them. It took another week for them to come out while I was around and then they'd run away if I moved toward them. THEN they loved me and wouldn't let me sleep at night. Such is life.

Also, you should check into PA laws. I belive that unless there is an emergency, your landlord is obligated to give you at least 24 hours notice if they are going to go into your apartment. I think that explaining that you only had the cat temporarily, and that there was no reason for them to be in your apartment without notice (if you can back it up), should be enough to get you out of that $50 fine.
