Bird Watching
Hyunseung sat on the park bench that was just a little ways from their dorm. He had to promise Doojoon and Junhyung that he wouldn’t go far in order to leave the dorm and he had to promise Kikwang and Yoseob that he would bring them back an ice cream just so they wouldn’t follow him.
His mouth formed into a small smile as a group of birds scuttled in the grass, attempting to find food. He loved bird watching. It was one of the rare times that he was able to find peace and relax during his hectic life.
He loved how free birds were. He envied their wings, wings that would let them fly away and take them to new places. There were several times in his life that he wished he had wings so he could fly away and escape his troubles, his pain, his sorrows.
He knew it was odd, a 22 year old male, especially an idol, wishing that he were a bird. That’s why no one knew about his visits to the park, not his family, his friends, or his members. Well, at least not all of his members.
He smiled as footsteps approached the bench.
“I’m sorry I’m late Hyung.” Dongwoon sat down next to Hyunseung. “Key and Mir wouldn’t stop talking and it took me forever to get away.” He opened up a small, brown paper bag. “But I didn’t forget the bird food.”
Hyunseung grinned at the Maknae. “I don’t mind if you’re late Woonie, just as long as you’re here.”
Dongwoon smiled and the two of them began throwing bird food onto the grass. For several minutes the two smiled and laughed as they watched groups of different species of birds scuttle in the grass, fighting for food.
The sun was just beginning to set when the bag of bird food was empty.
Hyunseung leaned back on the bench. “Thank you Woonie.”
Dongwoon looked at his Hyung. “For what?”
“For sharing these special moments with me.” Hyunseung turned his head to look at Dongwoon, his smile warm and appreciative. “And for not thinking I’m weird because I like doing this.”
Dongwoon was quiet for a moment before smiling and leaning forward. “I would never think you’re weird Hyung.” He gave Hyunseung a gentle kiss on the lips. “You’re too important to me. And besides,” he grinned, “these moments are really special to me too.” He kissed Hyunseung again, this time a little longer.
When Dongwoon pulled away he leaned back against the bench, wrapped his arm around Hyunseung, and pulled the smiling male into his side. Hyunseung places a small kiss on Dongwoon’s cheek before snuggling into the younger male’s chest.
The two of them sat there until all the birds left and the sun set, enjoying this special time that only the two of them could.
