I mentioned in a post about how I seem to write Kyuzo as somewhat unwilling with Kambei and Jun-I has some good input on the subject. What do you think about their relationship?
In my interpretation, Kyuzo's 'passivity' is not so much out of shyness or fear, but because s/he's the kind who would rather be the one to do the rejecting than to put himself/herself in a position to be rejected. - I kind of agree with this .. but maybe not for the same reason?
I guess I see it as that this way, the passivity and the aloofness, if 'anything' happens' she can distance herself from it and maybe say 'Ah, well. It's all good.' And it's theoretically easier to walk away from it all without dealing with too much baggage from it! Or something if any of that makes sense!
...and I don't think I could ever really see our esteemed Kyuu as victimish at all! ^_^
nearly superior in skill seems like an exciting turn on for someone like Kyuzo. - hee I like this alot!
A victimish Kyuzo would worry me. What sort of reaction would she have to being a victim? *shudders and hides under blankets* The thing about being aloof makes perfect sense to me! ^_^

This might just be saying the same thing differently, but maybe Kyuuzou's aloofness/passivity or whatever we call it is also due to pride? S/he is not like Kanbei, the thick-skinned sort who treats rejection pretty much the same way a toad would treat water on its back ;-) Kyuuzou's pride probably wouldn't handle pursuing after someone only to get snubbed or mocked. So I don't see him/her making the first move in a chase. I can see her taking some initiave *after* the other party, in this case shameless Kanbei, has made it more than clear that he is interested, but she's definitely not one to make 'cold calls', IMHO.

Kyuzo is pretty proud. I do the exact same thing, so I definitly understand that angle. I think Kyuzo's also not used to being pursued so intently. Being dangerous and anti-social, and not incredibly attractive, might limit offers from women, except those who like the danger. I bet she has never received such attention from someone who knew precisely what she was. And we all know how much Kambei flusters her. ^_^
