[ HEY GUYS it's your friendly neighborhood android, here to not really answer all the burning questions for the influx of new arrivals. For those of you who have never seen him before, he looks like a mostly ordinary young man, except for the LED blue eyes and the exposed gold wiring all over his torso and neck. ]Ah, it seems another of these ( Read more... )

[d'aaaaaw Twosix is back!]

You are remarkably accomplished at hiding, Twosix-Six. I wondered where you went.

No directive, or no pilot?

Neither, frankly. I was discovered and woken by a scientist who eventually took it upon himself to treat me as his own child, in the human fashion, but I did not wake with a directive. I had no idea who my makers were, what they intended for me, or why they had left me buried in the ground for a millennia. My father told me that I would have to trust my instincts like an organic in order to eventually discern my purpose. That I should cater to my natural sentiments.

My sentiments are that Hypatia suffers, and I must help her.

Would you harbour the same sentiment were she organic?

...yes.

[ But that is some noticeable hesitation right there. ]

I think so.

[she doesn't believe him, not entirely, but she nods all the same]

The Doctor has always been my primary concern and he would be no matter his species. I suppose it is the same for you, having found the one to which you belong.

[ That startles a noise out of him, not quite a laugh. ]

Oh, I don't believe I belong to her. I have simply never been able to ignore another's pain. Especially that of a synthetic.

That, I confess, I do not understand.

You were not programmed with the capacity for compassion?

I was not programmed.

You seem surprised.

My father explained that altruism was not a trait commonly found in natural creatures. That it had to be taught.

I wish that it was otherwise.

My Doctor is altruistic. All it has gained him is death and sorrow. I fail to see the appeal.

Has he never explained it to you?

He has tried. I fail to see the value, however. Save a select few, I care only for my pilot.
