[ May has never seen snow, let along been out in it, and so has gleefully taken the opportunity to go wandering around in it. She's also bundled up so much you can barely see her eyes over her scarf, because San Francisco cold is very different from "holy crap there is frozen water falling from the sky" cold.

She stops walking when she spots the other woman and her dog, grinning behind her scarf, though she's careful to keep a little distance. Dogs don't usually much like fae - they can smell that there's something off about them - but that doesn't mean fae don't like dogs. Or at least, May thinks they seem fun. ]

[Pino perks up when it senses the other woman, and goes to sniff her out. Gem doesn't stop him, just watching cautiously. Most women do not like her.]

He won't bite, I promise.

[ May crouches down, holding out her hand cautiously with a faintly bemused expression. Well, the dog's not barking crazily at her. That's a start.

After a moment, she flicks a glance up to Gem and grins. ] I'm not really used to dogs - I've only ever had cats. He's really cute, though.

[Pino does bark, but happily, licking at May's hand.]

Thank you. He's...different. He's more comfortable around non-humans.

[Since his previous owner, and Gem, are not anywhere close to being human.]

[ May laughs a little, and leans forward a little to scratch behind his ears. With her free hand, she reaches up to tag her scarf down a little so her voice isn't muffled by it. ]

I guess he'd have to be, in a place like this, huh? What's his name?

Considering both is owners haven't been human, either, yes.

His name is Pino.

[Pino is now jumping up on her legs, trying to get a bit higher, more scritches. He's licking at May, just...well. A ball of excited fluff.]

[ Oh God. If he keeps being this adorable, May is going to want one. Just. Too cute for words. ]

Hello, Pino! I'm May, and it's very nice to meet you.

[ She looks back up at Gem, and tilts her head a little. ] So what are you? If... you don't mind me asking. Or you can just tell me your name, if you'd rather. That's okay too.

Gem. And I'm a Program.

[Gem is almost annoyed at how damn excited Pino is over the girl, but she swallows the misplaced jealousy. She simply doesn't do well around females; something she knows she should get over.]

[ May: totally oblivious to any negative emotions going on here. But then, May likes everyone until they give her a reason not to.

She tilts her head a little, obviously curious... and a little bemused. ] A Program? Like for a computer? ...are you part of the station or something?

No.

[She makes a small look of distaste. Why do so many people--]

I existed in a place called the Grid--within a computer system on Earth. Far away from this place.

Oh. Sorry, I didn't... I've just never met a Program before. Though I have a friend who lives in a computer! April - she's a dryad, only her tree's inside a computer instead of... y'know, a tree.

[ An awkward pause, while she scritches Pino's chest. ] I'm not human either. If you hadn't already guessed.

Interesting.

[Her tone is neutral, not saying if she actually finds it to be so or not.]

And what are you, then?

I'm a Fetch! It's, um... it's a kind of fae. [ A death fae, but there's no reason to mention that if she doesn't know. It's not like she kills people. ]

What's a fae?

[She watches her, raising an eyebrow.]

A fairy? Sidhe? The Fair Folk? D'you have anything like that where- Well, I guess you don't, in a computer, probably. But do you have stories about them?

No. Before I came here, I had only met two Humans.
