Even stripped of her command, Kat couldn't bring herself to stop working. It just wasn't in her nature; like Carter, Noble team was her life. She didn't have weapons to protect them -- Thom had made sure of that -- nor did she have the authority at the moment to direct them, but she could at least pour herself into her research.
Carter taking that bullet had narrowed her already hyperfocused view of the world; she became convinced that in order to stop the madness that was gripping the people on the station, they had to understand the monolith, without really realizing that she herself had spiraled into it. Her headaches got worse and, after a day, she stopped sleeping. Her grip on reality crumbled.
Kat, you have to stop this. You can't try and understand it. It's a mistake.
Carter sat on the bed across from her seat, frowning at her, his arms crossed over his knees. Kat turned her head to frown at him.
"You have to go. I'm busy."
Carter sighs and shakes his head. You're making a mistake. But he gets up and leaves, leaving Kat to herself for a moment.
She'd covered the walls and floor in writing. At first, the paper she had had sufficed, but as she began to make sense of some things, she found that she didn't have enough space. The table had been next, but even that wasn't enough space. Eventually, she'd run out of pens. She'd paced around for a while, frantically wondering what she could use as ink, before she bit the pads on her remaining hand raw and written in her own blood.
The light headed feeling of pain and the sight nausea of blood loss is enough to make her realize, vaguely, what she had done to herself some hours later. She shudders, looking at her hand, unsure what had happened, and staggers to her feet, leaving her room to go find a medical kit.
